Girls of Gangyap is the remarkable true-life story of a group of impoverished teenage girls from the remote Indian state of Sikkim whose lives are transformed when they are introduced to the game of basketball. With the encouragement of their new hoops-obsessed principal, the ragtag team of unlikely athletes go from building a basketball court with their bare hands to national champions, becoming an inspiration for girls everywhere. Written by Nandita Seshadri, the feature film is in development with Gunpowder & Sky Studios and a talented filmmaking team that includes Stephen Ricci, James Weitz, and Nanda Rao, international cinema legend Mira Nair, Gunpowder & Sky CEO Van Toffler, and David Gale.
